Battery Curbside Collection Update

The results are in for the special Battery Curbside Collection and City residents are to be congratulated on a job well done.

During the special week-long event November 12 – 15, 2013, the City of Peterborough collected 3.2 tonnes of household batteries. This one-week total is more than half the amount collected at our Household Hazardous Waste Depot in all of 2012.

Clearly, residents appreciated the convenience of a curbside collection. Please remember though, that this was a special collection, and batteries are not normally collected with recycling.

City residents are encouraged to continue to recycle your spent batteries at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot, or, save them for the next curbside collection in March 2014. The Household Hazardous Waste Depot is open year-round, Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., to accept your batteries and other household hazardous wastes, free of charge.

Visit www.peterborough.ca/waste for more details, or call 705-742-7777, ext 1657 or toll free 1-855-738-3755, ext 1657.

Save the Environment and Save the Turtles

Every battery you recycle at the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot until November 4, 2012 will earn 30 cents for the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre or ecoSpark.

Please visit www.makethedrop.ca to register how many batteries you dropped off, and which charity you would like the 30 cents per battery to go to. So easy!

But you only have until November 4

Round up your household batteries and take them to the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located at 400 Pido Road in Peterborough.

The Household Hazardous Waste Depot is open Wednesday to Saturday, 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.
