Category: General Local Leap Forum on Peterborough Municipal Plan

March 21, 2017

Local Leap Manifesto Public meeting. Learn how ReImagine Peterborough will influence the Peterborough Official plan to move us towards the kind of city called for by the Leap Manifesto. Work with them to have your own input, or work with one of the other working groups.
The Leap Manifesto calls on us to take action on many fronts to combat climate change and related social justice issues. Municipalities are key in this fight and provide the most accessible venue for citizen engagement. The Greater Peterborough Climate Change Action Plan objectives must be supported by all aspects of municipal planning.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to come together as a community to plan and build an inspiring future for Peterborough. This will happen through the first full Official Plan Review in 36 years (“Planit Peterborough”), with public direction and your input being sought by city hall.
The Official Plan is the vision and central document that guides city growth, development, and land uses over time. It is a framework to assess proposed changes to achieve this vision, with detailed policies and maps. It can bring a community's dreams for the future into reality -- for housing, shopping, parks, jobs, urban agriculture, transportation, good design, etc. Required by the province, a city can only fund or build what is set out, or changed, in the Official Plan.
