The Peterborough Regional Farmers Network (PRFN) is a farmer-driven local food organization that is project-oriented and collaborative, with a mandate to support local food production and fair marketplaces in the Peterborough region. We are currently advocating for best practices at the farmers’ markets, finding new ways to connect farms and restaurants, and collaboratively promoting locally produced food. Our work thus far has allowed us to collaborate with such groups as the Nourish Project, The National Farmers Union, and Farmers’ Markets Ontario.
We seek to educate the Peterborough community about the many wonderful farms that are operating in the region and we aim to promote the sustainable benefits of supporting our local food producers. Our goal is to encourage greater consumption of local foods and greater economic opportunities for our agricultural community.
As a farmer-led organization, the PRFN sees that bringing the voices of farmers into conversations with local governments and local food actors in our community is crucial to building a sustainable food system for Peterborough.
