‘Building Cities in a Low-Carbon Economy’ explores design strategies in support of Canada’s international climate change commitments
Peterborough ON – (March 1, 2018) – A leading authority on sustainable building design will be at Fleming College on Monday, March 19 for a free guest lecture that is open to the public.
Andrew Bowerbank, Global Director of Sustainable Building Services with EllisDon, will present Building Cities in a Low-Carbon Economy, which explores industry-led strategies in support of Canada’s international climate change commitments.
The presentation shows how leaders are beginning to rethink their development strategies as they strive to adapt to change. Leaders are breaking down competitive silos and are working together to educate professionals, engage public interest and advance corporate objectives. Mr. Bowerbank will present projects that have successfully demonstrated how working together can transform an industry.
Mr. Bowerbank is recognized across the industry for his efforts to collaborate with thought leaders and drive innovation through high-profile projects and initiatives in Canada and internationally. He is a leading authority on emerging technologies, high-performance building design and low-carbon economics. Among his professional accomplishments, he is the former CEO of the World Green Building Council (2007-10) where he was proud to act as the Member Representative for the United Nations Environmental Programme. He was also the founding Executive Director of the Canada Green Building Council’s Toronto Chapter.
Today, Mr. Bowerbank is the Global Director of Sustainable Building Services at EllisDon Corporation where he has launched a new strategic plan called the “Carbon Impact Initiative” in response to global market trends towards a low carbon economy. In addition to his work at EllisDon, Mr. Bowerbank is a Council member at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Ottawa and Chair of the Cleantech Advisory Board at Centennial College. He was recently named one of Canada’s top 16 sustainability leaders at the 2017 “Clean50” Awards and he was awarded the prestigious Ontario Premier’s award this past November for his career accomplishments.
The presentation will take place on March 19 from 3-4 p.m. in Room D1129 (Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre) at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus, 599 Brealey Dr., Peterborough. All are welcome to attend.
