Grieving for the World - Loss in a Changing Climate

Category: General Grieving for the World - Loss in a Changing Climate

    May 9, 2017

The effects of climate change can be overwhelming with extreme weather events such as flooding and drought (both experienced locally in the last several years), markedly warmer winters, and declines in wildlife populations such as monarch butterflies – a decline with clear links to climate change. The natural world is no longer that of our childhood.

People often experience a range of emotions over these changes, including sorrow, anger, and helplessness. Indeed, the feelings are widespread enough that the American Psychological Association has just published a major report on the mental effects of climate change: Mental Health and Our Changing Climate. CBC Radio also discussed this issue on The Current on April 6.

All are welcome to this event to give people in Peterborough the opportunity to share these concerns and reasons for hope.

Category: General Can we continue to “meat” like this

    May 16, 2017

Is a healthy diet a sustainable diet? How can we eat to promote a healthy ecosystem while also enhancing our own health? In order to meet the demands of future food needs, a shift toward more sustainable diets is urgently needed.

This event will explore the reasons why this shift is needed, how the environmental sustainability of individual foods and diets are measured, current recommendations in this evolving area and where and how these concepts have been applied to dietary guidelines. The session will conclude with a discussion about actions you can take to integrate these concepts into other levels of food policy.
